Solarpunk is often treated as an aesthetic of green roofs, softened machines and cities warmed by collective care.
But ecological futures need more than technical competence. They need longing, friction, public life and a reason anyone would want to live inside them.
The interesting place is where climate anxiety becomes form and the city stops pretending it is separate from nature.
A beautiful future is not automatically a gentle one.

Perfection is suspicious because it usually hides the labour. Someone still waters the plants, repairs the railings and takes the compost out.
The most convincing future is not one without friction. It is one where friction has become communal instead of private.
